Healius' response to Coronavirus

Healius is committed to providing essential services in frontline healthcare to the Australian community in direct response to the coronavirus and for all other healthcare needs.
All businesses in Healius (Medical Centres, Pathology, Imaging and Day Hospitals) have instituted appropriate actions in response to the coronavirus following the guidelines provided by the Australian Department of Health and the relevant public health unit in each state. The present situation is set out below. It remains dynamic and will progress in line with updates to Government guidelines.
In consultation with appropriate authorities, we have designated a number of our Pathology collection centres as places where samples are collected for coronavirus testing. Whilst all of our 2,000-plus collection centre locations around the country have appropriate infection control procedures in place, these designated centres are provided with additional material to ensure the maximum safety of our employees, patients and the wider community. In operating these collection centres, we have balanced the community’s need to access testing as an essential part of getting appropriate and timely care, with local and landlord concerns regarding testing for the virus in a particular collection centre.
To assist public hospital screening of coronavirus, Healius has also been undertaking testing in our Pathology laboratories in some states and, with the capability to test in all states, this will likely expand in the near future.
In our Medical Centres division, every medical centre has appropriate signage regarding identification of symptoms upon arrival to avoid time in a waiting room, and an isolation room for treatment by a GP with protective equipment. Following the Government’s announcement regarding funding of telehealth consultations, as at 17 March, we have introduced telehealth solutions with Doctors at our centres performing phone consultations for patients. We are also in on-going discussions with the Government in relation to the potential use of a limited number of our facilities as stand-alone fever clinics and possible triage/call centre services, as we determine the Government’s specific needs and approach.
All our Imaging facilities in community, hospital and medical centre environments have signage and isolation processes.
As an employer of over 13,000 people we take the security of our staff very seriously and personal protection equipment is being provided to staff, supported by training, updated procedures and regular communications, in order that they may continue to undertake essential frontline healthcare. We remain dependent upon continued satisfactory supply of this protective equipment from our suppliers and the Government.
